Future Converter Dominated Power Networks

Abstract

Towards the target of a “Net-Zero” energy network and large exploration of renewable energy, future power network will be converter dominated with most of the existing synchronous generations replaced by converter interfaced renewables, energy storage and HVDC interconnectors. This talk will discuss some of the key challenges on future power network operation from a UK prospective, and highlight some of the research activities at Strathclyde in developing novel converter control and power system operation strategies in addressing such challenges.
